About Marcel San Gil

On a warm morning in April, in the first hour of the new day, Marcel San Gil pushed his way out into the world, interrupting his mother's sleep. Taking his first gulps of air, he was so excited to greet the new world.

What follows are some rambling thoughts to give you additional insight into who I am and have developed into.

Balance, people, and curiosity. These three words distill who I am today. I am passionate about people I care about and issues I concern myself with. I constantly challenge myself to avoid feeling comfortable and to continually learn; and I strive never to be singularly defined by any one adjective, job, or stereotype. I love to talk and laugh and meet people. I tend to be gregarious. My traits and my interests led me to conclude, by the time I was twelve, that stereotypical Asian activities and skills did not fit me. I am uncomfortable with labels. Thus, I constantly strive and push myself to develop and preserve my own persona, not defined by my race or perceived notions about who and what I am and should be. Instead I seek to educate myself and broaden my knowledge base, to understand the people who we live with in this increasingly complex yet shrinking world. I believe that one person can make a difference. If one can identify where the pulse of a community or society exists, one person's actions can influence many lives through the ripple effects of pressing on that pulse.

Balance: In my life, I have sought balance and harmony among the different facets and activities that are a part of me.

People: I am fascinated by people, their lives, and the motivations that drive them. Each person represents a fountain of stories to learn from. The large extended family that I grew up with shaped and brought out my interest in others. My family and friends have always provided me with unconditional love and unwavering support. I trust and empathize with people. I derive tremendous pleasure out of bringing a group of individuals together and creating a dynamic functional entity. My involvement in Web publishing, is an example of an idea that grew and thrived and crystallized into an incredibly satisfying experience, far exceeding my initial aspirations for it. I enjoy developing people, aiding them in learning different skill sets. I enjoy interacting with others. As a result, the skills I gained from that interaction has been instrumental in making me a more effective person and leader in every aspect on my life.

Curiosity: I am constantly curious, constantly learning, constantly questioning. I seek diversity and understanding in all areas of my life. I am not afraid to follow my intuition.
